Making your first loop
Sofa Looper is hands-free. There is no record button: the app is always listening, and you start and stop recording by holding your trigger note. Your hands never have to leave the instrument.
- Play or hum the note shown in the ring and hold it. The centre fills green, and recording starts on its own.
- Play your part.
- Hold that same note again to set the loop length and close the loop. It now repeats on its own.
- Hold it once more, whenever you like, to stack another layer on top.
To drop a layer you just added, hold the note two octaves above your trigger note — the app shows you which one that is.
A built-in Loop Coach walks you through the first one. Once it’s second nature, switch it off in Settings.
Common questions
Where is the record button?
There isn’t one, and that’s the whole idea — holding your trigger note is the record button. If you’d rather arm the app by hand, Settings → Recording → Always listening can be switched off, which brings back a Listen button to press before each take.
It records by itself, or won’t stop recording.
You’re most likely on the built-in speaker, and the loop is re-triggering the microphone. Use headphones, or let the app’s automatic echo cancellation handle it — it switches itself on whenever you’re on the speaker. Picking a trigger note that doesn’t appear in your loop also helps, and turning off Always listening in Settings stops it arming between takes altogether.
I can’t hit the trigger note.
Tap the ring (“tap to set”) and choose any note that sits comfortably in your voice or on your instrument. There is nothing special about the default.
Where are my saved loops?
Favorites live on your device only, in the app’s private storage. There is no cloud copy — deleting the app deletes them.
Does Sofa Looper use the internet or collect data?
No. All audio is processed on-device. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no network access at all. The details are in the Privacy Policy.
How do I change how the app looks?
Settings → Appearance. Four skins ship with the app and all of them are available from the start.
Something is broken.
Go to Settings → Help → Report a problem. The app prepares a diagnostic log (no audio content) that you can attach to an email. Send it to support@toyful.tools with a line about what you were doing, and we’ll dig in.
